Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is an action-adventure stealth video game produced by Konami and Kojima Productions that was released for the PlayStation Portable in 2010. Peace Walker is the third action-based Metal Gear title made specifically for the PSP, following Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and its stand-alone expansion Portable Ops Plus, and the first in the series released for a portable platform to be directed by series' creator Hideo Kojima. This is the first title in the series to alter the traditional tagline "Tactical Espionage Action" to "Tactical Espionage Operations", referring to the base building and mission mechanics of the game.

Set in 1974 in Costa Rica, the game follows the exploits of returning protagonist Big Boss (previously known as Naked Snake in Snake Eater and Portable Ops, now known simply as Snake) as he runs the mercenary unit Militaires Sans Frontières (Soldiers Without Borders).[4]

Missions

Players get to choose which missions to play from the "Mission Selector" screen. There are two main types of Missions: Main Ops are the primary story-based missions in which goals are determined by the narrative and must be played in a strict order in order to proceed. Some Main Ops missions include illustrated cutscenes that involve bits of interactivity in order proceed. Extra Ops are optional side-missions that involve much more elaborate goals ranging from simple target practices to obtaining secret documents.

When the player completes a mission, his or her performance is evaluated afterward. A player's score is penalized with a lower rank and reduced heroism for excessive killing and frequently being discovered, whereas players who are stealthy and subdue enemy soldiers non-lethally will be awarded appropriately. Players can replay previously cleared missions for higher ranks

Multiplayer

The Comrade System from Portable Ops has been removed in favor of a cooperative play mode called "Co-Ops", which allows two players to play most sneaking missions and four players in boss missions. There are several actions that can take place when two players are next to each other. 'Snake-in' allows players to hold on to each other as one player leads the way, also allowing the players to fire on the move. Other co-operative actions include holding up closing doors, performing CPR on fallen comrades, sharing items, and acting as a spotter for other players whose vision is obscured.

Versus Ops are multiplayer matches played over special versions of certain maps. The player has a choice of whether to organize individual or team deathmatches, base capture and quetzal capture missions. Only certain items or weapons unlocked in the single-player campaign can be used in the mode. Each match can gather up to six players with restrictions included, such as life and psyche points not regained and limited time for CPR revivals.

The gameplay is similar to that of the previous installments, and focuses on combo-based combat, achieved through the player's main weapon—the Blades of Athena—and a secondary weapon acquired later in the game. It features quick time events that require the player to complete various game controller actions in a timed sequence to defeat stronger enemies and bosses. Up to three magical attacks and a power-enhancing ability can be used as alternative combat options. Ghost of Sparta also features puzzles and platforming elements. The combat system was updated with 25 percent more gameplay than its PSP predecessor, God of War: Chains of Olympus.


Ghost of Sparta received praise for its story, gameplay, and graphics. Several critics agree that it is the best-looking game on the PSP. Others have compared the overall game to those on the PlayStation 3 (PS3), and some have said that the graphics are better than those of the PlayStation 2 (PS2). Ghost of Sparta received several awards, including "Best Handheld Game", "Best PSP Game", and "PSP Game of Show" at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), and "Best Handheld Game" at the 2010 Spike Video Game Awards. By June 2012, it had sold almost 1.2 million copies worldwide. One Puzzle's Different Solutions

As many of you already know Tardigrades is non-linear and is open for different solutions for its puzzles.

In this example, there is a wire fence separating this control room into two sections. As a botanist, Carter has access to the left section only. The right section is accessed through an airlock. Carter is not allowed in space. You can either sneak to the right section through an illegal trip from space as shown in the first and second screenshots.

Or, you can find a tool to cut the fence with and go to the other side without the need to go into deep space as shown in the third screenshot. The fence is fixed by a technician every once in a while. You can always cut it again just make sure no one sees you. Getting the tool is a puzzle itself. Also going into deep space won't be an easy task.

One Thing to Avoid in Game Design

When game designer Paul Peterson was interviewed for the upcoming Titans Series of games from Calliope Games, there was one segment at 1:55 that really caught my attention (emphasis mine):

"A couple years ago I was teaching people how to play Guillotine and I hadn't played in a while. The first thing I did was say, 'The first thing you gonna do when you open your game is you look through this deck and you take this card.' I pulled out the Callous Guards card and threw it over my shoulder. Everybody laughed. I said, 'That's the biggest mistake I ever made as a game designer in my life.'"

Oof. Those are strong words.

What's the big deal?

For context, the game Guillotine is all about collecting the heads of French nobles during the revolution. There is only one guillotine, with a line of nobles waiting for their grim fate. On your turn, you play action cards to change the order of the line, then take the Noble card from the front of the line. Your goal is to collect the most valuable set of Noble cards by the end of the game.

So what the heck does the Callous Guards card do that's so bad? "Action cards that alter the line may not be played." It stops the entire heartbeat of the game. While it's in play, no one can change the order of the line, which is what the vast majority of action cards can do. It means no one has any meaningful choices or substantial degree of interaction with the game-state while the Callous Guards are active.

Peterson later tweets: That card taught me the best lesson. "Don't stop players from playing the game."

You see some of this same frustration when Magic players face a fiercely constructed blue deck. Blue is notorious for restricting players possible actions or compelling them to follow a narrow avenue of strategic play.

In this GDC talk, Eric Dodds describes an early version of Hearthstone in which you discard cards from your hand as mana cost to play other cards. They eventually abandoned this plan because it just didn't feel good to have a card you carefully chose to put in your deck, only to have to waste it as fuel for another card. Players want to play those cards.

But the most classic example is probably any mechanism that forces players to "skip a turn." That most loathed of mechanics, perhaps second only to roll-and-move. I really only see this mechanic in very new designs from inexperienced designers. It's a big heavy sledgehammer that's very easy to swing, but rarely actually builds anything from the wreckage.

When do Callous Guards work?

All that said, I'm never one to completely rule out a game mechanism from my toolbox just because it's unpopular. I started thinking about examples where this sort of thing may actually be useful. These are edge cases, of course, but maybe it will inspire something in your future designs.

• Voluntary Passing/Folding: In games where playing the game can be risky, it's entirely sensible to skip your own turn voluntarily. As long as it's not mandated by another player's choice, then you can sit back for a little bit with a smug smirk while the rest of the table dukes it out in increasingly costly conflicts.
• Narrower Scope: Callous Guards really grinds the game to a halt because so many of the action cards relate to changing the order of the line. If those cards were a smaller subset of the whole deck, it might not have had such a severe impact. If you're making your own Callous Guards, find a small subset of actions that they can affect in your game.
• Expensive, but not Impossible: Instead of outright banning certain actions, your Callous Guards may simply make those actions more expensive. Perhaps they must pay you a bribe to pass through one of your territories or building a certain advancement costs extra resources.

At the age of fifteen, Gwen is much more skilled and proficient with her innate magical powers, able to create, control and manipulate pure magenta/fuchsia/pink-colored magic energy and mold it into various shapes and forms; such as ropes, bridges, slides, grappling hooks, shields for protection, and even stepping stones for transportation.

Kevin Ethan Levin:

A former nemesis of Ben, Kevin is now getting by as an alien tech dealer. He unintentionally gets involved in the Highbreed plot, and joins Ben out of a desire to make up for his actions.

Julie Yamamoto:

Julie is Ben's love interest, sweetheart, and girlfriend. She enjoys tennis, eating chili fries, and caring for her pet, Ship (an alien Galvanic Mechomorph found by her and Ben). She is voiced by Vyvan Pham.

Max Tennyson:

Max is a semi-retired member of the Plumbers and Ben and Gwen's paternal grandfather. He disappears while investigating the Highbreed plot, leaving only a few cryptic messages for Ben to find.

The Highbreed believe themselves to be the purest and most powerful of all species, and intend to cleanse the galaxy of impure lower life forms.

Hybrids of humans and alien drones that serve the Highbreed called Xenocytes, the DNAliens are able to disguise themselves as humans using special identity masks, called ID Masks.[1]

A paramilitary organization that has worked in secret ever since their formation in the Middle Ages.

Vilgax:

Vilgax returns in Season 3 with new powers and abilities.

Albedo:

Albedo is a young and arrogant Galvan. At one point, he was the assistant to Azmuth, whom he asked for an Omnitrix of his own.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 was officially announced by Konami on March 10, 2013. It was developed with six key elements meant to define the physics and the features of the game. PES 2014 centers everything on the ball: how it moves, and how players use it. Physics of the ball, stature of the player, speed and height of the pass are taken into account to recreate the most realistic football experience on a home system. Players are an important part of the game with Motion Animation Stability System (M.A.S.S.),increasing the realism of physical contacts between players, tackles and decisions taken on the pitch by the AI to have more open games. The audience has an influence on the performance of the team. A sad day

I was saddened early this morning as I got the news about Scott Murphy's mom passing away. She was such a great woman raising the most noble man I know in my life. They were lucky to have each other in her final years. One would think we the kids take care of our parents as they grow older. But no, our parents take care of us even as they grow old. We learn how to love more and more and become better individuals in this life.

No illnesses, no diseases. May you live in an eternal healthful happy place with those you love.

Many players were confused with the nature of Armored Core 3's storyline in relation to previous AC games. At the end of Another Age, the AC world appeared to be getting back on its feet after the conflicts of the subterranean era (Armored Core, Project Phantasma, Master of Arena) and the Mars crisis (Armored Core 2). However, when Armored Core 3 begins mankind is back in a subterranean city hiding from the effects of a catastrophic global nuclear war.


Two prominent theories have arisen to explain away this discrepancy. Either the game is set in the same world as the previous games and the world experienced a second "Great Destruction", or Armored Core 3 reboots the series' storyline and starts all over again from a similar starting point as the original Armored Core. The latter appears to be true.

Two different timelines were mentioned in the Armored Core 10 works complete file,[1] one of which refers to original Armored Core and continues up to the end of Armored Core 2: Another Age. The other timeline starts with Armored Core 3, ending in Armored Core: Last Raven. The roots of Armored Core 3 began with the humanity taking refuge in underground cities after a large scale disaster occurred on the planet's surface. Centuries after that great destruction, corporations such as Mirage and Crest were established. They paved the way for the development of the first MT prototype, the XMT-01, which soon led to the development of ACs and other MTs.

Sketching a 3x3 Tactical Tug-of-War microgame

This summer I'm trying to get into the habit of running 5k each weekday morning, then sketching some ideas over breakfast. The running is the easy part to keep up, but the sketching has been a little more difficult. But today I've got a little notion that popped while I was stewing over Battleline, Pixel Tactics, and Gwent.

I'm imagining this as an 18-card microgame with a pick-and-pass drafting setup. With only 18 cards for two players, I think it would be easy to memorize each card, thus making "advanced" play much more accessible to newcomers.

There are three ropes, represented by three columns with a flag at the center of each. The goal is to win at least two out of three flags. Each player has their own 3x3 field in which to play one card per space. Each player simultaneously chooses the space into which they will play by placing a card face-down in that space. Then each player simultaneously reveals their card. Whoever has the highest total strength in a column at the end of the game will win that column's flag.

A standard unit has a strength noted on the top left and a suit on the top right. When you play cards to the field, they're always oriented so these stats are on the top of the card from your perspective. Many units also have adjacency bonuses. In this case, this guy gives +1 to the unit on his left, +4 to the unit to the right, and +2 to the unit behind.

This Ogre's strength is based on how many Hearts are in this same column. It has a heart itself, so it's at least worth 2 strength to start.

This wizard gives a +3 bonus to the two cards ahead of him. Note that if he is placed in the middle or front row, he'd actually be giving this bonus to enemy units.

Though there are only three columns, I wonder about allowing players to play along the periphery. The strength of that outside unit wouldn't contribute to winning a flag, but its adjacency bonus may still be valuable for the row or column. Perhaps it's a cheering crowd?

Production Notes
Each Trickster set is a standalone game, but with the option to mix-and-match heroes from different sets, so it was a challenge to figure out how to best present the rules. Do I make a completely standalone video for each set, even if it meant repeating the entirety of the rules each time? That seemed inconvenient.

I decided instead to make use of the tools available on YouTube to turn the whole thing into a playlist. The first video goes over the evergreen basics of the game then links to shorter videos that detail the hero effects from each individual set. I hope this strikes the right balance between drawing in newcomers, but still scaling for each new set that gets added to the series.

When I first started producing this video, I was going to use a more traditional real-camera, real-hands setup but I found it very restrictive. I needed to show things in HD at a nice pace with few noticeable seams between edits. So I took a crash course in Adobe Premiere and to learn the basics of animation and audio editing. Having experience with iMovie, Flash, and other Adobe products, I found the transition pretty easy! These came together in about a week and future videos should be easier now that I've established a template.

Many many thanks to the volunteers who looked at early versions of these videos privately. I couldn't have made these as tightly edited and informative without your input. Thanks! Now I wonder about making more animated graphic tutorial videos for board games. I couldn't compete with some of the skilled teachers out there who work on-camera, but I could definitely see it becoming a fun little hobby.

Naruto Shippuden Kizuna Drive is the fourth instalment of the Uzumaki Chronicles series. Like its prequel, it was released for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The theme song for the game is Life Goes On by Junko Takeuchi.

The gameplay retains many of the elements from the previous game. One of the new features is the ability to fight alongside three other allies during levels. Players can assign various scrolls to characters for increase of health, chakra and attack power. In addition, they can equip various ninja tools and techniques for the characters to use. The techniques include long-lasting effects, such as Lee's Eight Gates and Karin's Mind's Eye of the Kagura. The feature to have three allies with you allows the performance of "team attacks", which include the four standing in a square formation and knocking the enemy around and finishing with each performing one of their techniques, resulting in an explosion.

The player can call any of the three allied characters to perform a technique on their enemy, resulting in the gaining of Kizuna Points. The higher the amount of Kizuna Points when the mission is finished, the higher the rank you receive on it. Kizuna Points can also be used to revive fallen allies and, if the player falls, an ally will immediately go to revive them if there is enough Kizuna Points. Kizuna Points can also be gained by performing team attacks.

The game goes by its own unique story that takes place immediately after the Akatsuki Suppression Mission, and it begins the Itachi Pursuit Mission. It tells the story of Yumegakure, originally nothing more than the hidden village of a tiny country. It became known for its control of a massive guardian beast, called the Three-Heads. That power made it superior even to the five great nations. It formed a pact of peace with Konohagakure, and the two became allies. That alliance has kept balance among the nations, keeping each in check.

However, one night someone who appears to be Naruto Uzumaki is seen moving along the rooftops of the village with a sinister smile on his face. As he places a tag on his face, the power of the Nine-Tails is released and he completely transforms. The Nine-Tails then fires a huge blast of chakra directly at the village, resulting in an enormous explosion that destroys most of the village and sets it ablaze. Itachi Uchiha is then seen observing the burning village as the villagers run in panic. Higher up, two shinobi, Yomito and Taisa are seen with their sorrow for their village, but a kunoichi, named Ryuka, encourages the three of them to go fight it. They are, however, stopped by the village chief, Enzo, who states they could not possibly defeat it. As he expresses anger that Konoha has betrayed them, a man, named Gensui, looms over the burning village and confronts the beast. As it fires another immense chakra blast, Gensui sends out a storm of sealing tags to counter the blast. He then rushes at the beast with a massive explosive tag as it prepares to fire another blast and the scene fades white with Gensui having supposedly perished.
